What are Neuromodulators/ Botox used for?

Botox and other neuromodulators are injectable products that have been Health Canada approved for cosmetic use since 2002. They are most commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and unwanted lines on your skin. The active ingredient in Botox is a purified protein trusted by the medical community to temporarily block nerve signals, preventing excessive muscle movement which cause wrinkles to show.  Botox is most commonly used to treat the forehead, vertical lines (angry 11’s) and the lines around the eyes, or crow’s feet.

What takes place in a treatment procedure ?

After a thorough consultation, the areas to be injected will be wiped with a sterilizing solution and tiny injections will be placed in the target muscles at the appropriate depth to. A very fine needle is used, so you will feel a series of pinches during the treatment and after the treatment you can go back to work or your day, and no one will know you had anything done!

What is Botox made of?

Botox is a purified protein derived from the botulinum toxin. When used for cosmetic purposes, it temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles, smoothing out wrinkles caused by repetitive movements (dynamic wrinkles) such as frowning, squinting, or smiling. Botox injections are quick, minimally invasive, and offer exceptional results.

What should I expect after my Botox treatment?

After your Botox treatment, you can expect to see visible smoothing of wrinkles and frown lines starting to soften within 4-5 days, with full results appearing in 2 weeks. The effects of Botox can last up to four months, and vary from person to person. It’s important to note that Botox is not a permanent solution. If you discontinue treatment, your frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines will gradually return.

Are there any side effects or risks?

Botox is the most common cosmetic procedure performed worldwide with minimal complications. The most common side effects may include slight bruising and redness at the injection sites. The redness usually resolves within 30 minutes and if there is bruising, it is usually minor and easily covered with make up. There is always a chance of slight asymmetry or incomplete relaxation, but not to worry, if that occurs, a touch-up can always be done to correct things.

Are Neuromodulators/ Botox right for you?

If you have wrinkles on your forehead or around your eyes at rest, or significant wrinkles with movement or a family history of deep, permanent wrinkles, Botox may be the answer to maintaining your youthful look.

Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or on blood thinners, will not be able to get Botox treatment. It is essential to receive a thorough consultation before undergoing any treatment to ensure a safe treatment.

Are there limits to getting Neuromodulators/ Botox?

Many people get Botox from a young age and throughout their lives. It is a safe procedure done all over the world. In the rare case, one can develop a tolerance to one type of neurotoxin, in which case another one can be substituted for it.

Where else can Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva, Xeomin) be used?

Neuromodulators including Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva and Xeomin can be used in a variety of other areas including nose lines, bunny lines, chin dimples, a downturned smile, jawline, neck bands, horizontal lines on the neck, lip lines, lip flips, sweaty palms, feet, underarms, and the nose area (for nostril-flaring and tip droop) to name a few!

How often will I need treatments?

The effects of Botox last about 3 months and will gradually wear off. By 4 or 5 months, most of your original muscle movement will return, and you will be back to your baseline. How often you get Botox treatment is a personal choice. To maintain results, the average treatment interval is every 3 to 4 months. Some people choose to get a treatment a couple of times a year, or before special events, and that is okay too.

How long does it take for the Botox to work?

You will first start to notice some results after 2 to 4 days. Through days 5-10 you will notice a steady decrease in muscle activity and significant smoothing of wrinkles. By day 12, you will reach peak effect. If you have deep or static wrinkles, you will see these ease over the following weeks. It is recommended that you get your Botox treatments and other cosmetic injectable treatments at least 4 weeks before to ensure the effect has completely settled and leave time for touch-ups if necessary.

Combining Botox with Other Treatments for Total Rejuvenation

Botox produces excellent outcomes, but for the best anti-aging results, it can be combined strategically with other treatments.

Dermal Fillers

While Botox relaxes muscles, dermal fillers rejuvenate areas of volume loss that occurs with aging. Adding dermal fillers to your lips, cheeks, chin, under eyes, or temples can result in a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

PRP/PRF

One of the keys to looking radiant is taking care of your skin. Microneedling and Mesotherapy offer a way to revitalize your skin with natural nutrients. Treatments with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) help to reduce blemishes and even out skin tone.
